On line cleaning of thermic fluid system

Introduction

A plywood manufacturer received a thermic fluid sample report indicating a carbon content more than 2.5,  TAN more than 2.3 but viscosity was under control. Concerned about the implications of higher carbon content and  increased acidity the company sought assistance from Dr. Thermic Fluid – EVPL.

Background

High carbon content could prevent proper heat transfer, increase fuel consumption. TAN levels can significantly cause punctures, leading to operational failures and costly repairs. Addressing these issues promptly was crucial for the manufacturer to maintain efficiency and safety.

Challenges

  • Elevated Carbon Levels: Contributing to potential choking.
  • High Total Acid Number (TAN) : indicating increased corrosion and puncture possibiliy.

Solution

  • Installation of System FACT-O Micro-Filtration System: This system was installed to effectively remove carbon deposits and viscous oil from the thermic fluid.
  • Dosing with THERMCLEAN OL: This specialized treatment was applied to remove carbon buildup and provide corrosion protection for the system alongwith TAN improvement.

Results

  • Decreased carbon percentage: carbon was decreased to 0.5 over a period of time.
  • Decreased TAN Value: Gradually reduced the TAN to 0.9, restoring the thermic fluid to its optimal condition.
  • Improved System Integrity: Enhanced protection against corrosion and operational issues.

Conclusion

Use of System FACT-O filtration and THERMCLEAN OL solved the issue of carbon buildup in the thermic fluid system.
